Hurricane Preparation

How should I prepare my home if a hurricane is approaching?

Protecting your home before a storm is critical. Every association has different rules about storm preparation, so please review your governing documents for any community-specific requirements. General best practices include:

  • Secure outdoor items: Bring in or firmly anchor patio furniture, grills, planters, and decorations.
  • Protect windows and doors: Install hurricane shutters or board up windows if your home is equipped for it.
  • Check drainage: Clear gutters, downspouts, and storm drains near your property to reduce flooding risk.
  • Stock emergency supplies: Keep water, food, flashlights, medications, and batteries on hand.
  • Know your evacuation zone: Follow county or city emergency management instructions if evacuations are ordered.
  • Stay informed: Monitor official alerts from the National Weather Service and your local emergency management office.

Remember: The Association is generally not responsible for securing individual homes. Each owner must take steps to protect their own property.
